Just outside the south gate of Pebble Beach, at the tail end of 17-Mile Drive, is the storybook village of Carmel-by-the-Sea. The days of Steinbeck's Cannery Row still echo along the famous waterfront of Monterey's boat harbor. The first capital of California, Monterey now boasts a thriving downtown and world-famous aquarium.

PACIFIC GROVE
Located next to Monterey, Pacific Grove, first developed in the 1800s, is a historic town complete with Victorian homes and seaside cottages.
The Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary is open during the wintering season from October through early-March. The Sanctuary is located at Lighthouse Avenue & Ridge Road.
POINT LOBOS AND BIG SUR
The 26-mile drive from Carmel down the coast along Highway 1 to Big Sur is a must-do. The breathtaking views are worth the hairpin turns. Stop at Point Lobos for a picnic or a stroll along the dramatic cliffsides.
WINE TASTING
The Monterey region has 200 years of wine growing history. Many area wineries are open for wine-tasting.
